What it is
A slim toran built for double doors. At 2.75 inches wide, it hangs between two doors without catching when either one swings open. Inspired by the real-flower gajra torans found in Indian homes, it is reinterpreted with gold and silver Banarasi fabric flowers on a solid maroon silk base, silver beads, pearl bead detailing, ghunghroos and dull golden beads.
The standard length is 37 inches. We can make it in a custom length to match your door’s width.

For scale, the width is about two finger-widths. It is slim enough to sit neatly on the door frame, while the Banarasi flowers remain visible from across the room.
Materials and why we picked them
Gold and silver Banarasi fabric flowers: The flowers are hand-layered and stitched. Banarasi fabric gives the petals structure, while its woven texture catches the light. The two metallic tones create depth without relying on a bright colour palette.
Solid maroon silk base: The smooth silk sits behind the raised Banarasi flowers, allowing their shape and texture to stand out. The maroon brings warmth to the gold, silver and pearl detailing.
Silver beads and pearl bead detailing: These bring small points of light between the flowers. The pearls soften the metallic tones, giving the toran its Sona Chandi Moti character.
Ghunghroos with a gold coating: They make a soft sound when the door moves. The coating may dull over time, especially in humid conditions. This is natural ageing of coated metal.
Dull golden fibre beads: Used as spacers and accents. Because they are fibre rather than metal, they do not tarnish.
The assembly is hand-stitched. No glue is used.
The craft

How to hang it
A small silk loop is stitched into each corner. Hang the toran on existing door-frame hooks, two small nails or adhesive hooks rated for its weight. The loops are stitched firmly for repeated use.
The story
The gajra toran takes its inspiration from strings of fresh flowers hung at the entrance of Indian homes. Beautiful as they are, fresh flowers last only a short time. This version carries the same welcoming spirit into a piece made for repeated use.
Sona Chandi Moti brings together the glow of gold, the cool shine of silver and the softness of pearls. The Banarasi flowers add texture; the maroon silk base gives the lighter details a rich backdrop. A gentle sound from the ghunghroos completes the piece whenever the door moves.
The 2.75-inch width is deliberate. A wider toran can get in the way of double doors. This petite version keeps the floral presence of a traditional gajra while fitting the way many doors open today.
Care and longevity
- Dust gently with a soft brush or dry cloth.
- Keep away from direct moisture and standing humidity.
- For long-term storage, roll loosely and keep in a dry place. Do not fold sharply.
- Avoid hanging outdoors or in an unprotected, monsoon-facing entrance.
- The ghunghroos’ gold coating may dull over time.
- Keep the bead detailing dry and handle it gently when cleaning.
What to expect when it arrives
You may notice slight variations in flower placement and bead spacing. Every toran is assembled by hand, so no two are identical, even at the same length. The ghunghroos may chime softly when the door moves; that sound is an intentional part of the design.
Packaging
Your toran arrives carefully rolled in a fabric pouch with a thread closure, inside a protective shipping box. The pouch can also be used for storage when the toran is not on the door.
