There is something about a parrot’s chirp that instantly lifts the spirit — a cheerful sound, a call for attention, a sign of liveliness. That joyful energy is what inspired us to name this piece Kilkila.
At IBHI, we created Kilkila Matli with the intention of making your Ganesh Sthapan or Gotrijo rituals not just meaningful, but also memorable. The matli is crafted from raw terracotta and hand-painted in authentic geru — the sacred red earth pigment long associated with purity and tradition. Measuring approximately 11 by 11 inches, each piece is slightly unique, shaped by hand and the natural variations that come with it.
But it’s the detailing that makes Kilkila truly special.
Around the matli’s rim, we’ve carefully hand-attached a playful arrangement of tassels — each one carrying a tiny story. There are tiny wooden parrots, nodding to India’s love for vibrant birds and their place in folklore. Alongside them are pom-poms, pearls, cowrie shells, and ghungroos, all chosen for the textures and soft jingles they add. These are not stitched tight — they dance and move freely, catching light, wind, and curiosity.
Between each tassel, we’ve placed traditional Indian mirrors, which shimmer softly and reflect the joy of the ceremony back into the space.
The kodiya (a small container that rests within the matli) has not been overlooked. It’s dressed with copper gota patti flowers, mirrorwork, and a hand-painted border, making it a perfect vessel for placing prasad or sacred items during the ceremony.
And once the rituals are complete?
Kilkila transforms from a sacred article into an aesthetic décor piece — ready to bring a spiritual and artistic aura into your home. Place it on a shelf, on your mandir ledge, or use it as a memory marker for a cherished event.
Every detail in Kilkila is handmade with care, rooted in tradition, and infused with a desire to celebrate Indian craftsmanship in a joyful and lasting way.
