ELEMENTS OF THE TORAN

Indian Gold Finish Bells | Traditional Kalawa | Fabric Asopalav Leaves

Why Kalawa Raga?

Kalawa Raga (कलावा राग)The Melody of Tradition

IBHI chose the name Kalawa Raga to capture the soulful harmony of tradition and artistry that lives in every thread and bell of our Asopalav Toran.“Kalawa” (कलावा) represents the sacred red-and-yellow thread, symbolizing protection, prayer, and auspicious beginnings in Indian rituals. “Raga” (राग) is a classical Indian musical term, meaning melody or emotional essence. It also metaphorically conveys rhythm, harmony, and mood.

This handcrafted Asopalav Toran by IBHI is a blend of sacred symbolism and festive beauty. Made with fabric Asopalav leaves, strung on Kalawa thread, and adorned with traditional brass-finish ghungroos, it adds rhythm and reverence to your entrance. Each knot on the Kalawa has a bunch of 5 Asopalav leaves with metal embellishments at the top.

Ideal for weddings, pooja rooms, and festive home decor, this toran is lightweight, vibrant, and made for modern homes that cherish cultural roots.

Do the Asopalav leaves look black to you?

The pictures of Kalawa Raga toran are taken with sunset as a backdrop, which is why some pictures might appear dark. The leaves are made using dark green fabric, they are not black.

Find the correct size?

The height of this toran is 7 inches

Will the embellishments turn dull?
Yes, the metal bells will turn dull over a period of time as the toran sits on your door, as moisture says hello to them, they become friends and the bells change their color. Kalawa Raga toran is made using all naturally occuring materials- metal, kalawa threads, fabric. There is no use of plastic or fibre embellishments.

In 2021, Pooja Dave was 22 years old when she noticed something most people walk past without a second thought. India’s handicraft industry had skilled hands, beautiful work and genuine value, but very little structure.

She decided to change that through a business. IBHI brought together India’s regional textile traditions like Banarasi, Patola and Silk with the handcraft skills of women who had never had a formal livelihood.

Today, 355 women across Kadi, Kalyanpura and Sanand work with IBHI. They are skilled artisans with a craft, a workplace and an income.

Every IBHI piece takes a minimum of 12 hours to make. Twelve hours of cutting, layering, stitching and finishing by hand, with precision and without shortcuts.

When you buy an IBHI piece, you are not just buying decor. You are supporting a system built to give Indian craft the structure it deserves and the women behind it the recognition they have earned.
