Find Your Hooks First
Before anything else — locate where your toran will actually hang
Already have hooks? Measure hook to hook.
The most accurate measurement. Simply measure the distance between your two hooks — that is the exact toran size you need to order.
No hooks yet? Measure door frame to door frame.
Measure the inner width of your door frame from one side to the other at the very top. This is where your hooks will go — so this number is your toran size.
Always measure at the top of the door.
Measure where the toran will actually hang — at the very top, not the middle or bottom. Door frames can be uneven.

Measure the Width Correctly
Get the right number — one wrong digit and the toran won't fit
Always use a metal measuring tape.
Cloth tapes stretch over time and give wrong readings. A rigid metal tape is the most accurate. Measure twice before noting the number.
Write it down with the unit.
Note your measurement as "36 inches" or "91 cm" — not just "36". A wrong unit can mean a completely wrong size toran arriving at your door.
Standard door widths for reference.
Most Indian home main doors: 36"–48". Apartment doors: 30"–32". Room doors: 28"–30". Always go with your actual measurement — do not guess.

Single or Double Door?

Single door — order hook-to-hook size. Simple.
Your toran hangs from the frame above the door. When the door opens inward, the toran is unaffected. No extra calculations needed.
Watch both doors open — see the toran interaction
Double door — make sure toran does not block the door swing.
If doors open outward, a toran that is too wide will get caught. Order hook-to-hook exact size only — do not add extra inches for double doors. Test with a string first: hang it where the toran will be and open both doors to check clearance.

Height & Drape Style
Width is not enough — height and drape make the real difference
How low should your toran hang?
Standard toran drop is 6 to 10 inches below the top of the door frame. Too low and it blocks the door. Too high and it looks sparse. Check the product listing for the toran's drop length before ordering.
Want a beautiful curve? Order 2 inches bigger.
If your toran is flexible — fabric, thread or bead based — ordering it 2 inches wider than your door frame creates a gorgeous natural drape in the centre. The slight extra length creates the traditional graceful bow that torans are known for.
Rigid toran? Order exact size.
MDF-backed or structured torans do not drape. Order the exact hook-to-hook measurement. Adding extra length will make it look unbalanced.

Choosing the Right Hook
The hook you use matters as much as the size you order
Hook Types
Nail Hook
Strongest option. Supports heavy torans with MDF, glass beads or metal elements. Cannot be removed without damage to wall.
For heavier torans
Adhesive Hook

Perfect for rented apartments where drilling is not allowed. Works well for lightweight fabric or thread torans. Check weight limit on the pack.
For lightweight torans
Heavier torans need stronger hooks — always.
Torans with MDF backing, glass beads, or metal embellishments are significantly heavier than fabric-only torans. Do not use adhesive hooks for heavy torans — they will fall. Use a proper nail hook drilled into the door frame.
Living in a rented home abroad?
Many homes in the US, UK, UAE and Australia do not allow drilling. Use 3M Command hooks with the correct weight rating for your toran. Always check the weight limit on the pack before using. If unsure, WhatsApp us and we will tell you the weight of your toran.

Extra Tips Worth Knowing
Small things that make a big difference
Vastu tip — hang your toran on the main entrance.
According to Vastu Shastra, a toran on the main entrance invites positive energy and prosperity into your home. Torans were traditionally hung on the main door — not interior room doors. If you can only choose one door, choose the main entrance.
Rotate your torans by festival and season.
One toran for Diwali, one for Navratri, one for everyday. Torans are meant to be changed — they bring fresh energy to your entrance with every occasion. IBHI torans are designed to be stored flat and easily swapped.
Outdoor or indoor?
Fabric and embellished torans are designed for indoor use or covered verandas — not direct rain or strong sunlight exposure. If you want to hang a toran at a building entrance that faces weather, check with our team for which designs are weather-resistant.
Care tip — dust gently, avoid water.
Dust your toran with a soft dry cloth every 2 weeks. Do not use wet wipes or spray cleaners on fabric or embellishments. Store flat in a dry place when not in use — never fold forcefully as it can damage the structure.
